Jim Day has had a life-long fascination with birds, particularly raptors. Their strength, beauty, and graceful flight has always captivated him.
By the age of nine, Jim was painting birds. At age twelve, he enrolled in the northwestern school of taxidermy, a correspondence course, to learn the art of taxidermy.

For six years he mounted a variety of species, developing his skills and studying the anatomy of birds. At age eighteen, upon graduation, he worked in his father's water delivery business. He worked this job for eight years. Then, in 1983, he started a new job at a factory in Florence Kentucky. After eight years he decided to start his own business and pursue his taxidermy as a career.
In 1991, Jim left his full-time job and became a full-time taxidermist. By 1993 he began to develop techniques to re-create birds of prey. In 1995, he entered a bald eagle re-creation in the world taxidermy championships; he won best in world re-creation, and his eagle was also featured on the cover of breakthrough magazine.
Soon after, Jim began getting orders for eagles and re-creations of other birds. Now his re-creations grace the lobbies of companies, the homes of private collectors, learning and development nature centers, and natural history museums across the world. His work has been featured on PBS television several times, and has had numerous articles in local, national, and world publications. His re-creations have also been used in several motion pictures. In his spare time Jim likes to sculpt and paint wildlife.
